HEPA & ULPA Filters

HEPA & ULPA Filters are one of three main classes air filtration products that can be economically supplied and professionally installed by LAF technologies. The other two main classes of air filtration products include Carbon Filters and Pre-Filters.

HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) and ULPA (Ultra Low Penetration Air) filters are the most efficient air filters commercially available. Originally developed in the 1940’s and 1950’s by the U.S. Army Chemical Corp, Naval Research Laboratories and Atomic Energy Commission, HEPA filters have a minimum efficiency of 99.99% for particles down to 0.3 microns.

Absolute filters are made of glass fibre paper with fibre diameter around 1µ. The paper is folded to provide a net effective filtering area between 25 and 75 times greater than the face area of the filter. Consequently the velocity through the filter paper becomes very low usually not more than 0.025 m/s creating a wholly laminar airflow condition through the filter and around the filter fibres.

Due to the fragile construction of HEPA / ULPA filters LAF Technologies recommend that only trained professionals install these types of filters.

Improper installation can cause irreparable damage and non-compliance during testing (AS 1807.6). At LAF Technologies Pty Ltd we are able to supply, install, test and NATA certify to 99.99% DOP challenge almost any size filters (including holding plenums) to suit your installation.
